Martial Arts Training

What do we teach?

Budo Taijutsu is the umbrella name for a collection of 9 traditional Japanese schools of Jujutsu. Each one of the schools has its own characteristics and set of techniques.

Originally these 9 schools came from the historic warrior classes in Japan. At Conquest, we take these principles and apply them to a modern scenario.

How will I train?

Classes are comprised of mixed ability students from beginners to black belts, and everyone learns from each other.

We feel that everyone has something to offer during training, no matter what grade. Instruction often takes the form of what is known in Japan as ‘Ishi Shoden’ (person to person/one to one transmission).

Practice during a class can encompass both armed and un-armed techniques. The un-armed aspect is similar to traditional Japanese Jujutsu and includes techniques such as striking, punching, kicking, joint locking/manipulation and throwing.

Some of the most commonly used weapons in training are the Katana (Japanese sword), Rokushaku-bo (6ft staff) and Hanbo (3ft staff).

What we do in our classes

A typical class lasts for around 1.5 hours and will comprise:

Warm up - mobilty and a small circuit
Ukemi – learning to roll and fall safely
Kihon – fundamental basic techniques (punching, kicking, joint locking/manipulation, throwing)
Followed by the particular lesson of the day which may be based on the year’s current theme or a particular school, technique, idea or weapon.

No previous martial arts experience is necessary, nor do you need to be especially fit to participate.

To take part in adult training you should be over 18 years of age. However, with parental consent, younger people may train (ideally with someone of their own age group). In all cases, the minimum age is 14 for the adult classes, and there is no upper age limit.

"I started training with Conquest martial arts Dojo in Oct 2017, once a week, they added this extra evening session at White Oak which has meant I can train twice a week now, which has meant a much better training level for myself. The training room is fitted wall to wall with mats suited to training. Plenty of parking on site."

"Great class! It is a great system with a huge heritage and loads of fun! First class free... Highly recommend this"
